Mont Aiguille

The accident was triggered during a safety test, by an uncontrolled surge in reactor power to more than one hundred times its nominal output. The ruptured core was exposed to open air, and enormous quantities of radioactive material were released into the atmosphere for several days across Europe and beyond.
